Random Starship Geomorph Configuration

An example of a random starship geomorph configuration including two 100'x100' centers, six 50'x100' edges, and four 50'x50' corners. Like any kind of random generator in gaming, the result may not make complete sense, but is quick to generate and serviceable. Given the number of guns, fighters, and cargo space, this configuration might be suitable for a 1,200 ton military armed transport.

Fighter Hanger Geomorph and Illustrations

I've been working on the model/illustrations for one of the fighter hangar geomorphs. Lots of detail in this one since in addition to the fighters it includes a repair bay/machine shop, work bench for electronics or smaller repairs, and a flight control room on the second level. I hope to be including more illustrations of this space in the future.

Building a Better Ship's Engineer

I hate drawing people, but I'm working on a new illustration and needed a good ship's engineer. I'll usually just do a Google Image search and trace the best thing I find, but in this case I was getting mostly pictures of Montgomery Scott, Geordi LaForge, and Kaylee Frye. Nothing against any of these iconic ship's engineers, but I really wanted something a bit more unique and with more of a Traveller feel.

It's the long way around, but here's my process: I try to start with an image of an actual person in a pose something close to what I'm looking for. In this case I found a carpenter in a nice, natural pose. I then modify the image in Photoshop with whatever accessories help tell a better story. Boots, patches, and vests are a lazy, but effective, trope for quick sci fi costuming, so I went with that. I import the Photoshopped image into AutoCAD for easier vector tracing (SketchUp is terrible for complex 2D drawing). The AutoCAD drawing is imported into SketchUp for coloring.

Illustration - Air/raft Garage

Illustration of an air/raft garage and ship's lockers. The guy with the gun could be a bad guy up to no good or a crew member checking out a potential problem. The air/raft model is available for free at the SketchUp Warehouse here: Air/Raft model

Illustration - Crew Lounge / Galley / Common Area

Illustration of a ship's Crew Common Area / Lounge. On a small ship this would serve as the main galley and mess area. Counter units are modular. This combination shows a basic kitchen and entertainment units. The rear wall contains image projecting panels, here showing a serene forest lake scene. The shelf unit contains souvenirs of the crews' adventures, including a 3rd Dynasty Tokhtea Gong and an urn containing the ashes of Duke Kuugoshuug.

Starship Geomorph Cube

Just for fun - a starship geomorph cube. This could technically work, what with artificial gravity and all...
