Traveller 15mm Deck Plan Collection

I've taken all my deck plans to date and reformatted them for 15mm figure use. All sheets are now 18"x24" (apologies to all you metric system users). I've also updated the drawings to include:
  • slightly revised Hammer Class Merchant ship
  • Hammer-Hunter variant for bounty hunters
  • Ore-Hammer variant for prospectors
  • Nirvana Class Dropship long range variant

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
EDIT 10-21-2018
A couple minor edits:
The X-boat station was incorrectly shown as 200 tons, when it is in fact 400 tons. The Hammer Class prospector variant was incorrectly called an Ore-Hunter, where it should have been called an Ore-Hammer. The PDF with all the 15mm deck plans has been updated.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

All of these are included in a single PDF file and can be downloaded here: Traveller 15mm Deck Plan Collection

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
EDIT 02-28-2021
Due to the popularity of Virtual Table Top systems during the Covid lockdown, I've converted these PDFs to JPGs for easier use with VTT systems. A single ZIP file containing the JPGs can be downloaded here:

Call For Entries - Community Designed Geomorph Layouts

[ UPDATE 2025-09-09  I am no longer taking submissions for this project. Thanks to all who submitted entries! ]

Now that the Adventure Class Starship Geomorphs PDF and individual graphic files are available. I would like to put together a compilation of starships, small craft, and vehicles designed by the Traveller community using these tools. If you would like to participate, please review the minimum requirements below and email your entry to me.

Click [HERE] to download the new Adventure Class Starship Geomorphs PDF.
Click [HERE] to go to Eric Smith's geomorph blog page with downloadable image ZIP files.

Minimum requirements for entries are as follows:

Designer's Name:
This can be your real name, online name, or simply "anonymous" if you prefer.

Ship Class Name (if part of a class)
or
Ship Name (if a one of a kind, custom ship)

Ship Type with optional qualifier:
Examples: Scout, Armed Merchant, Fast Courier, Heavy Fighter, Luxury Passenger Liner, Far Trader, Commerce Raider, etc.

Tonnage:
This should be approximated based on the dtons provided with each geomorph. Include any hidden deck tonnage (for fuel, additional drives, etc.)

Jump Rating:

Maneuver Rating:

Power Plant Rating (optional):

Fuel (for how many jumps):
Examples: single Jump-2 or two Jump-1 (actual dtons of fuel is not required)

Ship Geomorph Layout:
Option 1: (no software skills required)
Provide a written description of the layout, specifying geomorph number, location, and attachments.  For simplicity, multi-level ship decks should be labelled as Upper, Middle, and Lower (as opposed to Deck 1,2 ,3 or Deck A, B, C). Ships should be described fore-to-aft with fore (ship's bow) being on the left.
Example:
Upper Deck: [fore] SE-208, Sh-039, M-011, SE-544 [aft]. Add DV-02 (remote turret), barrels facing aft, centered above M-011.
Lower Deck: [fore] SE-107, QG-18 (rotate 180 degrees), M-012, SE-500 [aft]. SS-033 attached to starboard side of QG-18. SS-039 attached to port side of QG-18.

(Note: If the rotation of geomorphs is desired, let me know as shown above. I will adjust any text to the proper orientation).

Option 2
Provide a graphic example of your layout using the individual image files. For quality and consistency I will be recreating your layout in AutoCAD, so while you are free to edit the graphic files to better relay your design intent, I will not be using your image for the book, nor will I be making extensive revisions (see modifications below).

Requested minor modifications (if any):
In an effort to create better, more functional deck plans, I am open to making minor modifications to your design. If you could make a few changes to the geomorphs to make the ship layout better, what would they be?
Example: Delete vertical access from SS-033 and SS-039 (unnecessary). Add vertical access between forward geomorphs in corridor adjacent to upper forward starboard stateroom and lower deck low berths. Modify ship's boat to show passenger seating.

Ship Description:
Write a description of the ship including whatever information you feel is relevant. Refer to canonical Traveller ships if you need direction. Any write-ups should be in a format that allows easy copy and pasting on my end (text in an email is fine).

High Guard stats (optional):
High Guard spreadsheets can be included, but I may reformat as the layout requires.

Notes to the editor:
Include any additional information you may wish to relay to me. This may or may not be included in the final book.

Notes to participants:

  • Email your submission to YetAnotherTravBlog@gmail.com. Please include "Geomorph Entry" in the subject line. Please do your best to provide all information required in your first correspondence. No offense, but I don't want to find myself suddenly dragged into unlimited back and forth emails with anyone.
  • Limit two entries per person. I'm thinking the book will include maybe 30 ships, but that really depends on the number of entries received. If this becomes popular I will produce additional volumes and request more entries.
  • Deck plan layouts and write ups should be evocative of canonical Traveller ships. While a ship layout does not need to conform to any particular set of starship construction rules, an effort should be made to make it look like it does. I don't want to squash anyone's creativity, so for now I am not putting a limit on the number of geomorphs you can include. Some layouts may require a bigger page size than the typical 8.5"x11". That will be for me to resolve.
  • The geomorphs from Starship Geomorphs 2.0 can be used in your design if you wish.
  • Layouts will be accepted on a first come-first served basis. If your layout is too similar to one already submitted it will either be rejected outright or you will be given some direction and an opportunity to resubmit your layout.
  • I do not object to the use of ChatGPT or other AI to assist you in your write-up, but PLEASE be sure to review and edit for content as necessary. I've seen ChatGPT create good sounding, but nonetheless nonsensical gibberish.
  • I may select some ship layouts for 3D modeling and/or illustration purposes. This will most likely be based on what will be quickest for me to produce. Don't feel bad if your ship is not selected. It's not personal.
  • All submissions will be licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International License.
  • I reserve the right to reject any entry for any reason.
  • There is no submission deadline at this time, since I have no idea how many people will like to participate.
  • Once complete, a compilation PDF of the layouts will be made freely available through this blog. [EDIT 02/24/2025 - Individual PDFs will be posted to this blog as they are completed. A compilation may be created depending upon the number of entries completed and available time.]

I'm looking forward to seeing what you come up with!

Robert

Random Starship Generator and Geomorph Shipyard

I just wanted to give a quick shout out to some creative tools developed for use with the Starship Geomorph image files.

The good folks at Role Generator have created a Random Starship Generator, which takes user input and creates either a randomly generated starship deck plan or presents a random, pre-generated ship plan. The image base uses those created from Starship Geomorphs 2.0 and various small craft. It is very simple to use and can create a lot of ships very quickly. The Random Starship Generator can be found by clicking [HERE].

An example of the Random Starship Generator output.

Iván Sanchez Ortega, who designed the Peapod Class Mobile Refinery as part of the Adventure Class Starship Geomorphs community design project, has recently released Geomorph Shipyard, a simple to use tool for combining geomorph into your own unique designs. The image base uses files created from Adventure Class Starship Geomorphs. The software is simple and intuitive to use, keeps a running tally of parts and tonnages, has an image preview tool, and a Save and Load feature. More features are expected to follow, so keep your eyes on it. The Geomorph Shipyard can be found by clicking [HERE].

The Geomorph Shipyard interface - with my own unique design.

As always, thanks to Eric B. Smith for doing the original image file conversion. I'm sure he is happy to see his work put to good use. Tools like these are a welcome part of the geomorph family and I encourage other developers to create similar work, provided it be made freely available to everyone. Great job to all involved!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

UPDATE 2025-10-29

Ivan has updated the Geomorph Shipyard app to include images files from Starship Geomorphs 2.0, added some super helpful library and geomorph shape filter functions, a preliminary export to image feature, and now the app automatically creates a randomized starship deck plan upon start up. Great job, Ivan!

Z is for Zhodani Courier

"Finished Not Perfect" - Jake Parker

It was a weird coincidence that the night before I started the A-Z Blog Challenge I came across Jake Parker's video on YouTube. He had just posted it that day. "Finished Not Perfect" became a sort of mantra to me over the last month. My initial idea of spending 1 to 3 hours a day was pretty much blown out of the water from the start. Some items posted were already created so they didn't take much time. Other items I had to research extensively before I even started working on them. Some of the ships with 3D model and deck plans have 15 to 20 hours in them. I think I can safely say I've worked past my initial frustration of only creating one post in August. Lots of new ideas were generated along the way. This isn't the end, but I'll be taking a more realistic pace after this.

So here's last entry for the A-Z challenge - my take on the Zhodani Courier. For reference I looked at both the classic Traveller Alien Module 4 - Zhodani and  GURPs' deck plans from their Aliens Races 1 - Zhodani and Vargr. I don't understand why the GURPs deck plan shows the maneuver drives so big or why there isn't a power plant or computer called out.

The engineering areas are completely reworked and I modified several other parts of the GURPs deck plan to make it more to my liking and to get it to conform with the CT book 2 rules. I also replaced the GURPs #$@&%*! hex grid with a proper square grid as nature intended.

 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
For a higher resolution PDF, click this link: (Traveller Starship Deckplan Zhodani Courier). The deckplan was created to be printed out on 30"x42". Scale is 1" = 5'-0" so it can be used with 25mm miniatures. Enjoy!

Adventure Class Starship Geomorphs

The new Adventure Class Starship Geomorphs book is finally complete and ready for download. Unlike the previous book of geomorphs, the components of this book were specifically designed to recreate the feel of the smaller, classic Traveller starship designs. The original geomorphs still have their uses, and can even be incorporated into adventure class designs, but I believe this collection is a vast improvement both aesthetically and functionally. I took your constructive criticisms to heart. Now deck plan layouts look less blocky, and the smaller size means most geomorphs are function specific, meaning fewer multi-purpose geomorphs.

Click [HERE] to download the new Adventure Class Starship Geomorphs PDF.
Click [HERE] to download the Starship Geomorphs 2.0 PDF.

(Update: anyone with the above link should have access to the file.)

Other than size and shapes, there's not too much new here. I've omitted instructions on how to print for cutouts and miniature use, which are included in the Starship Geomorphs 2.0 PDF. This new PDF is layer enabled, allowing more print/viewing options. For example, you can turn off the A-TEXT layer to hide room names if you like nameless maps for player handouts. You can turn off the A-SHADE layer to eliminate the gray fuel and engineering areas to save on ink. You can turn off the A-GRID layer if you prefer gridless deck plans.  Note that each page of the PDF has its own layers, so this type of editing is cumbersome and non-intuitive, but it is possible.

There are a few people I need to thanks publicly that really made a difference in this project:

Eric B. Smith
- You might remember Eric from his conversion of literally thousands of geomorphs into individual graphic files, not to mention the addition of his own designs, for use with virtual table tops and other graphic software to more easily create geomorph layouts. Eric is back at it again, currently converting the new geomorph. Expect to see individual graphic files to be made available sometime in late January or so. Thanks for your hard work, Eric!

Jon Daniels - Jon had been sharing some of his work with me which included his own ship designs with High Guard stats. I wanted to include ship stats as part of the Ship Gallery, but was not looking forward to it, having lost the love of that level of ship creation decades ago. Jon took that aspect of the project over and did a great job and also did some Traveller related ChatGPT training which was immensely helpful. His contributions helped me get out of a bad funk and created a renewed sense of enthusiasm for the project in me. He shared his LinkedIn profile with me and it reads like the best of Traveller character generation. Thanks for pushing me over the finish line, Jon!

Tom Mouat - I'd lost my 10 year old workhorse of a computer a couple of month ago. I didn't lose any project data, fortunately, but I did lose ALL my creative software. I struggled with various PDF editors when Tom recommended FoxIt PDF to me. This recommendation may seem like a small thing, but when you're trying to get all your ducks lined up in the eleventh hour, a good PDF editor is critical. If you are looking for a good alternative to Adobe Acrobat, consider checking out FoxIt. Those who've seen Tom's work on Facebook know Tom is a great Traveller content creator in his own right. He also sets the finest gaming table I've ever seen. Thanks, Tom!

So what's next?
Future updates: I'm always open to constructive criticism, so if you see something you feel needs correcting, please comment below. As part of Eric's file conversion he has also been kind enough to point out some graphic errors. I'll post an updated version of this PDF if I feel it is warranted.

Blank Geomorphs PDF: I'm working on a book of blank geomorphs based on the two starship geomorph books. I'll probably have that done within a week.

Community Generated Starship Layouts PDF: I've been playing with the idea of creating a book of geomorph-based deck plans created by the Traveller community. Users would submit at minimum a geomorph layout and minimal ship stats, but could also include a ship write-up, history, adventure hooks, full High Guard stats, and/or an illustration to flesh it all out. I'd create a cleaned up deck plan and format the information. Let me know if this is something of interest and I'll set up some guidelines for submissions.

I'm pretty sure I've stated this before, but I'd really like to get back to regular blog posts with a smaller scope. I'll try to make that a more regular occurrence in 2025.

Enjoy the new book and the upcoming holidays!

The Refit Yard - Florian Provincial Merchant

I'm introducing a new feature to the Yet Another Traveller Blog: The Refit Yard.

From time to time I will be taking previously published classic Traveller starships and giving them an overhaul; updating specifications to Mongoose Traveller High Guard rules, updating deck plan graphics to my preferred style, fixing perceived deck plan irregularities, proposing ship variants, and creating new illustrations (as time allows). My intent is to keep the flavor of the original ship as much as possible, just refit them for the 21st century. I also hope to introduce players to older, less accessible ships they may not have encountered before.

The first ship is the Florian Provincial Merchant, from the pages of The Third Imperium magazine, Issue #8. Scans of this magazine are available through Marc Miller's Far Future Enterprises website, in the Apocrypha-2 collection.

Deck Plan - Hammer Class 100 ton Merchant

I've got a sketchbook filled with deck plan sketches, mostly small stuff - 100 to 200 tons, merchant ships, scouts and couriers, a few small military ships. As time allows, I'd like to clean them up and post them here.

Hammer Class 100 ton Merchant
Using a custom 100-ton hull, the Hammer Class Merchant is a commercial vessel used for small cargo shipping and trading purposes. It mounts jump drive-A, maneuver drive-A, and power plant-A, giving a performance of jump-2 and 2G acceleration. Fuel tankage for 40 tons supports the power plant and one jump-2. Adjacent to the bridge is a computer Model 1bis. There are three staterooms and no low berths. The ship has one hardpoint and one ton allocated to fire control. Installed on the hardpoint is a pop-out double turret, which mounts two beam lasers. There is one ship's vehicle: an enclosed 4 man air/raft. Cargo capacity is 15 tons. The ship is streamlined.

The merchant ship requires a crew of three: pilot/navigator, engineer, medic/gunner. With it's relatively large cargo bay adjacent to the main airlock, the Hammer Class is easily converted to other uses. Popular conversions include the Hammer-Hunter variant used by bounty hunters and the Ore Hammer variant used by belters.

Adventure Class Starship Geomorph - individual image files

Eric Smith has completed the conversion of the Adventure Class Starship Geomorphs from PDF to individual PNG files today and has made the files available. Unlike the previous images he converted, these images are gridless, for easier use with virtual table top gaming systems (VTTs), which typically provide their own grid options. You can also easily combine geomorphs in your favorite graphics editing software. Eric has made both square and hex backgrounds available as an underlay for your deck plan creations.

For additional customization, Eric has pulled many of the ship's vehicles and cargo out as a separate, optional overlay... giving you even more control over the look of your deck plan.

For more information, check out Eric's blog and read about his process and tips for assembling geomorphs using Paint.Net, a Photoshop plugin for Paint.Net, and TR's PseudoSnap! plugin to help align the geomorphs to a grid.

>> CLICK HERE TO GO TO ERIC'S GEOMORPH BLOG PAGE WITH THE IMAGE ZIP FILES <<

>> CLICK HERE TO CHECK OUT ERIC'S "HOW-TO" YOUTUBE VIDEO <<

I've created an edited version of the image files, removing the color elements and adjusting the orientation per the PDF (left is fore). I am considering adding a permanent square grid to these, for consistency with the originally released geomorph image files.
>> CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD THE MODIFIED IMAGE FILES <<

Eric is considering creating high resolution version of these files, and possible of the recently release geomorph blanks. I'll let you know when I hear anything.

[EDIT 01-07-2025: Eric has posted high resolution images to his blog page.]

Hammer Class 100 ton Merchant - Additional Images

I have had several requests to provide additional images for the Hammer Class starship, in particular orthographic views and what the underside looks like.

M is for My First Starship Deck Plan

Just for fun, I thought I'd post something showing my humble beginnings; my very first starship deck plan, complete with Ship's Papers, Crew Data, and some highly suspect financial records. This was done in late 1984 or early 1985, evidently before I new how to read or do math. For a "100 ton" trader it's awfully big (actually 274 tons, unless I took a sloped hull into account, which I know I didn't).

It seems in those days the Imperial Scout Service would loan any 34 year old man 9 million credits for a ship down payment and the good banks at Glisten would cover you for the remaining 37 million. Daddy must have had some strong connections. Good thing Captain Kenorist was such a talented trader. He was able to completely pay the ship off in only four weeks, and was 63 million credits in the black after only eight weeks. Trading around Glisten was quite lucrative, apparently.

Deck Plans - Starship: 200 ton (ish) Yacht

So in all the years I've been playing Traveller and more likely, playing with Traveller, I've never adventured in a yacht. I'm pretty much a scout and merchant guy and my old gaming friends leaned heavily toward mercenary adventures. I've had firefights on the Azhanti High Lightning, explored several suspiciously derelict lab ships, and even blew up an X-boat once... but no yachts.

So here is my first attempt at a Traveller yacht. I wanted to make something fast and luxurious, so I went with 4-G acceleration and tried to push the luxury as much as I could: a couple of very large executive staterooms, high ceilings, lots of large view ports, some interior landscaping, and a large, reconfigurable passenger lounge that can act as a dining area, game room, dance floor, or whatever. I took a page from real world luxury yachts (and Traveller's Safari Ship) and added a rear deck for entertaining or to launch recreational craft from, in this case a couple of grav-bikes.

Time to push this ship into jumpspace and let the nobles aboard get about their business of stabbing each other in the back. More images to follow.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
For a higher resolution PDF, click this link: (Traveller Starship Deck Plan Destiny Class). The deckplan was created to be printed out on 30"x42". Scale is 1" = 5'-0" so it can be used with 25mm miniatures. Enjoy!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Designer's Note: Unfortunately, I decided to take a new design approach with this ship and was in way too deep before I realized I had gone over my intended tonnage. "In for a credit, in for a mega-credit" as the old saying goes, so I pushed through the design regardless of actual displacement. Purists should know that this design tops out at just over 240 dtons (yikes!). At least I redesigned the fuel tanks to provide additional fuel for the increased tonnage. This is a Book 2 design, by the way. Not that it matters when you've fudged this badly.

I could have easily made this entire blog post a rant about the stupid design decisions I made while working on this ship. "Really? The grease covered engineer has to pass through the banquet room to get to his bunk?! Good thinking! Fourteen toilets on the main deck, but NONE in engineering?! I like a ship with quirks as much as the next adventurer, but they shouldn't be designed in!

I've got to keep telling myself "It's only a game. It's only a game"... :)

Starship: Firebird XP4 Variants

Here are a few variants of the Firebird XP4 from the Mongoose 1st Edition Book 3: Scouts. There was some discussion on one of the Traveller Facebook pages about some of its layout peculiarities. So here is my take on the ship, based on Classic Traveller Book 2 rules (excluding the drop tanks).

For the most part I just switched out the original plan's massive ship's locker and wasteful circulation for two very small staterooms and a common area with galley, and relocated the controversially placed port turret to the top of the ship. Finally, I changed the lines of the ship just a bit as I'm not fond of overly "pointy" ships (Vargr designs excluded of course). Still, this keeps the general appearance of the original plans.

This is my first deck plan with drop tanks. I never really cared for the idea of having to rely on a starport to have tanks available and it possibly could curtail visits to more interesting frontier worlds. I included fuel scoops, processors, and and extra 10 dtons of fuel so that in the event no drop tanks are available, the ship can still function as Jump 1 starship. Book 3: Scouts suggests variants are available, so I included an Advance Scout option and another for a robotic crew.

Deck Plans - Starship: 200 ton Armed Merchant

Finally finished the deck plans and section for the Sharptooth Class Merchant ship. I'd still like to put some polish on it, fix some line weight issues, jazz up the image overall, add more (and more creative) ship names. but this will have to do for now.

For a higher resolution PDF, click this link: (Traveller Starship Deck Plan Sharptooth Class). It was created to be printed out on 30"x42". Scale is 1" = 5'-0" so it can be used with 25mm miniatures. Enjoy!

Starship Symbols Book

I've compiled a book of the symbols and room blocks I created in AutoCAD for the Starship Geomorphs book into a PDF for anyone who has an interest in that sort of thing. I'm also including the AutoCAD .DWG file and .CTB lineweight file for those who may want to try their hand at drawing their own starship deck plans in my style.

>> CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD THE STARSHIP SYMBOLS BOOK AND CAD FILES <<

Enjoy!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
UPDATE 11/01/2021 - By request I have converted the AutoCAD .DWG file into .DXF format to allow for use with a wider variety of CAD software.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
UPDATE 8/05/2020 - The CAD file is saved in AutoCAD R2004. I've added an additional
file in R2000 for those with older versions of AutoCAD. I've also added an 8 1/12" x 11"
Starship Deck Plan Template PDF.

Starship Geomorph Images and Virtual Table Tops

One of the most frequent questions I get regarding the Starship Geomorphs book is "Can I get access to the original images?" Since the PDFs are printed directly from AutoCAD, there are no intermediate images. This question and discussions around the topic have ramped up recently - I'm assuming due to the pandemic and the increased use of online virtual table tops (VTTs). I don't use VTTs myself since I am more of a solo gamer, but I've always loved tools that helped people be more creative and I haven't met a frazzled GM yet who didn't appreciate a good time saving tool. Online gaming is a great way to maintain social distancing and game with people around the globe. With that in mind I want to introduce a few people of the Traveller community I've been interacting with lately and link to the Starship Geormorph files they've been generous enough to share that they've created as part of their VTT gaming.

I highlighted David Gillespie of High Shelf Gaming last July, after catching his "Yacht My Problem" Traveller campaign on YouTube. David uses Roll20 as his VTT. He used Photoshop to convert the geomorph book into .PNG files of each page. He then created his "Titan" deck plan from those. David has been kind enough to provide us a link to the assets for his game, which includes the aforementioned geomorph sheets, a variety of deck plans, and vehicle tokens. He's also included an .MP3 file of some ominous music he used for when the players entered the ship.

David's "Yacht My Problem" game assets can be found here.

Nicole Beach of Cheese Weasel Logistics is using the geomorphs with the Fantasy Grounds VTT. She has created a Traveller geomorph mod for that system which she has shared on the Traveller RPG House Rules Facebook page. The mod can also be found here. Nicole trimmed the geomorphs to the outside of the wall and included a variety of vehicles and ships from the book. A ZIP file with her collection can be found here. Nicole also has plans to release a Traveller game and official Droyne Coyns.

Manfred Pade uses Tabletop Simulator as his VTT. He used GIMP - a free photo imaging software - to create individual geomorph .JPG files. He then converted those files to Tabletop Simulator objects that can be used within the game. The Sci-Fi RPG Starship Geomorph Map Tiles module can be found here. Manfred trimmed all 400 of the Standard, Edge, and Corner geomorphs down the centerline of the wall for easy placement. The geomorph image files he created can be found here. A video example of using the tiles on Tabletop Simulator can be found here.

Although when I created the Starship Geomorphs book I did not have VTTs in mind, I am really grateful for David, Nicole, and Manfred for taking the time to create the files from my book and be willing to share them. The whole purpose of creating this blog was to share some of my work with the Traveller community, so their efforts are appreciated in helping me with that goal

If you would like to create your own modules for other VTTs feel free and let me know so I can share your work. My only requirement is that anything you create based on my work remains free (even if the VTT costs to use it). Credit and/or a link to this blog is also appreciated.

Note that all the images and mods referred to above are based on version 1.1 of the Starship Geomorphs book and many of the images have been tweaked, majorly modified, or renumbered for the upcoming 2.0 book. I can easily create full page image files of the book like David did, but to create trimmed images like Manfred's takes considerable more effort. Hopefully someone from the community will step forward to put in that effort if the community feels having those extra files would be beneficial.

Happy Virtual Travelling!

Ellison Class Far Trader and variants

Original sketch circa 2000

I often carry around a pocket sized sketchbook - Moleskine or similar - to capture random ideas, work out whatever problems I'm trying to solve, etc. For Traveller, these sketchbooks are the perfect size for a single deck plan of about 100 dtons. As a result, I've got a couple dozen of these ships deck plans (of varying quality), but they've sat unattended for about a quarter century. These were originally designed using Classic Traveller Book 2 starship construction rules or just sketched off the cuff. I decided to update the design to current Mongoose Traveller High Guard 2022 rules. I hope to do more in the future as time allows.

The class is named after one of my favorite authors, Harlan Ellison, who passed away in 2018. I wanted to do something to commemorate his writing, so all the Ships of the Class names are based on his work.

Not  everyone gets into smaller ships, given their limits, but I find them endlessly fascinating. So anyway, here's another one to do with as you wish.

Even More Images!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Update 8/27/2020
Eric Smith has created over 150 new custom bridge tiles, using images from the Starship Symbols book and overlaying them on various rounded and pointed nose configurations. I'm impressed by how well the original bridges and the new "nose cones" work together. These images are available at the original links below. Also, keep checking out Eric's blog as he continues to add more ship designs. Among others, he's added full deck plans for a  9,000 dton, four level Luxury Liner. Great job, Eric!

Today I received another collection of images converted from the Starship Geomorphs 2.0 and Starship Symbols books. Eric Smith took on the Herculean task of erasing out the standard square grid and creating PNG images with transparency. This is great news for those of you who want to use these with VTTs and variable grid styles or GURPS players who specifically want a hex grid.

Additionally, Eric made quite a few of his own custom geomorphs and customized a lot of the bridges from the Starship Symbols book. He also took the time to create multiple color versions of many of the vehicles, so those of you looking to run your Traveller-Car Wars crossover now have dozens of tokens to choose from. Not enough for you? He also created a couple starship layouts and several floor plans for an apartment complex and then converted my starship deck plan collection into grid-less PNGs as well... and also Photoshop PSD files for those who want to get creative and make your own variants.

Seriously... my head is spinning from the amount of work that he has done and made available.

I highly encourage you to check out his blog post and read about his process and tips for assembling geomorphs using Paint.Net, a Photoshop plugin for Paint.Net, and TR's PseudoSnap! plugin to help align the geomorphs to a grid.

For you GURPS players, Eric also has another page filled with all kinds of GURPY goodness.

If you are not a 7-Zip user I've added a link to standard .ZIP files of Eric's work. Be advised these are mostly high resolution images and there are several thousand of them.

Thanks again to Eric and the others mentioned in the previous post who have spent the time converting the geomorphs and symbols into a more usable format and making them available to their fellow Travellers. I'd tip my psi shield helmet to you but you know those damn Zhodani are everywhere.

Y is for Yacht

"Not life, but good life, is to be chiefly valued". - Socrates

Here's my second take on a yacht for Traveller: the Prosperity Class 200 ton Yacht. Although the Destiny Class Yacht was fairly well received, there was much I didn't like.

Statistically this ship is fairly similar to the Destiny - 200 tons, Jump 2, and 4 G acceleration. There is a much clearer delineation between crew and passenger spaces. No crew member except the steward and maybe the captain need to mingle with the passengers. The passenger lounge is roomy and takes advantage of the views from the bow of the ship. When landed, two transparisteel panels at the front of the ship can be opened up to an extendable outside covered deck to create an even larger socializing space.

The dorsal turret is now a low profile missile rack - purely an aesthetic decision - and contains twelve small but high-yield missiles. The ventral turret contains a double beam laser.

The ship uses large wings to assist in atmospheric flight and they fold up during landing to minimize the ship's footprint. The rear half of the ship rests on the ground during landings and the front is supported by landing gear.

Thanks to everyone at Citizens of the Imperium for their input on the previous design. I'm hoping this ship is more worthy of the nobles and megacorp executives in your game.

For a higher resolution PDF, click this link: (Traveller Starship Prosperity Class Yacht Deck Plan). The deckplan was created to be printed out on 30"x42". Scale is 1" = 5'-0" so it can be used with 25mm miniatures. Enjoy!
